Jenna Forsyth ’07 named to inaugural TIME100 list of most influential people in global health
Forsyth majored in biology at Carleton and is now a research scientist at Stanford University.
Jenna Forsyth ’07 has been named to TIME’s inaugural TIME100 Health, a new annual list recognizing the impact, innovation, and achievement of the world’s 100 most influential people in global health.
“I am incredibly honored and humbled by this,” Forsyth said, “and incredibly grateful for the foundation that Carleton gave me!”
Currently a research scientist at Stanford University, Forsyth is being recognized for years of work that began when she was a doctoral student in 2015. Her eventual discovery that “lead chromate, an industrial yellow pigment, was being added to [turmeric] powder [in Bangladesh] to make it more vibrant… led to a massive effort by the government in Bangladesh to ban the use of lead chromate, increase food-safety oversight, and to educate farmers and consumers on the dangers of lead chromate in turmeric via news media and face-to-face outreach,” TIME reports.
